Pioneer DJ 2009
| Since July 1, 2009 Pioneer DJ in conjunction with myDJspace commenced a country-wide search for Australia’s hottest undiscovered DJ talent. With a 12 month Pioneer DJ Ambassador Agreement, world class DJ rig, national media coverage, along with a major national and international gig on offer, Pioneer’s 2009 Pro DJ Search unearthed the strongest line-up of Bedroom DJ talent this competition has ever seen. With the introduction of peer-voting and unconstrained playlists, this year’s Pro DJ Search attracted the highest amount of entries, including three times more mixes uploaded by entrants. After two months of fierce but friendly competition, eleven finalists were announced, as voted by the punters. Over the last two weeks, Pioneer DJ has been faced with tough task of determining the 2009 Pro DJ Search winner. However, there can only be one winner and Pioneer DJ is excited to announce that finalist DJ Playmate is the 2009 Pro DJ Search winner. “DJ Playmate will be a fantastic addition to the Pioneer DJ brand and joins the likes of Grant Smillie, Stafford Brothers, Roger Sanchez, Axwell, Emily Scott, J Red, Keli Hart, Helena, Eric Powell, Mark James, Jody McLeod and many more as a Pioneer DJ Ambassador,” says Collee Chappell, head of Pro DJ marketing at Pioneer Electronics Australia. Pioneer DJ would like to thank all the entrants and punters who voted during this competition, particularly the ten other finalists. So whether you scratch it, mix it or mash it, if you think you’ve got what it takes to progress your DJ skills to the next level, than get on-board for Pro DJ Search 2010. www.mydjspace.com www.pioneer.com.au www.futureentertainment.com.au www.ultimate-dj-gear.com www.djplaymate.com |

The weekend I got "Pioneered"
My first official Pioneer introduction definitely takes the cake off the fat kid with a swipe of surprise and sheer joy as I braced myself for the unknown turn of events for the weekend.
Friday : Australian Made Festival @ Billboard, Melbourne
The night starts off early as we get greeted at Billboard with a shot of tequila, from that point onwards I had a feeling the night was going to get just a little bit crazy.
On meeting all the other Pioneer DJ Ambassadors and my new found Pioneer family it was refreshing to meet such a awesome fun and down to earth bunch of characters, all so talented and passionate, just makes you want to take in all their advice and positive energy and drive and release in into my own music.
With so many artists playing on the the night there was no excuse to not just enjoy the ride (and the bar tab) and party it up with them all, at the bar, on the bar, on the stage, on the side of the stage and in the dodgy thai restaurant down the road to reline my stomach with solids before all heading back to the hotel to continue rocking out, to what was already an epic night of pure entertainment on all levels.
Off memory i recall leaving the rest of the Pioneer rockers at around 6.30am as I had to catch a plane in a couple of hours, and needed a little bit of sleep, as I was playing @ Family in Brisbane Saturday night. What seemed to be a 5 minute nap I awoke suddenly and as I look at the clock realised my flight was taking off ummm...NOW...eek! I call Collee from Pioneer to let him know i've missed my flight and he just laughs and reply's "Well that's a clear indication the night was a hit, and I wasn't the only one as Keli Hart and a few others missed there's too."
Saturday : Dolls in the House @ Family, Brisbane
I had no time to think (or shower), and threw all my things into my bag and head to the airport asap to catch the next flight. I had a 1 hour window when I arrived in Sydney to shoot home to get some fresh clothes and more tunes before jumping on my next flight, but alas Virgin puts me in the very back row, for what was supposed to be a quick exit from the rear door, then decides not to use it when we land....argh!!
15 minutes lost, it's a race to a cab to step on it to Bondi, as I call my flatmate with instructions of what to pull from my wardrobe and music collection for a quick pickup, time is getting away from me as it was a 27 minute trip home, and as we turn around and head back to the airport i've 23 minutes to get there, so i quickly flash an extra 20 in front of the driver so that his initial strict speed limit is forgotten, but as the cab pulls up to the airport check in had closed by a mere 2 minutes, and they wouldn't allow me to take 2 carry on pieces onboard with me...grrrr!
So i'm now waiting at the airport for the next flight, possibly still a little drunk from the night before, dying for a shower, some clean clothes and more sleep and then it's announced that my flight is delayed...by an hour!
But wait it gets even better, when I finally make it to Bris Vegas, they have somehow lost all my luggage, with the exception of my DJ bag. Now initially the feeling is to get angry, but I've no time to be a hater so I just laugh at this point and think it's a sign that I'll be rocking out an amazing set as that is all I have....my music.
And believe me I did,...skanky airplane clothes and all.

All about the music
SX News - Written by Garrett Bithell
Wednesday, 23 September 2009 15:19
Ibiza, Miami, London, Tokyo, Amsterdam, and now Sydney. Global music juggernaut Fierce Angel is set to take Australian by storm on its quest for world domination, writes Garrett Bithell.
Fierce Angel, the global music phenomenon taking the world by storm from Ibiza to Miami, is launching its first ever Australian show at one of Sydney’s hottest nightspots, The Ivy, this weekend, with three levels of music and mayhem.
The brand is the brainchild and new baby of Mark Doyle, the man who created Hed Kandi, which has sold over five million compilations to date. Fierce Angel has become the home of the most coveted dance compilations, the freshest clubbing concepts, and singles that light up the savviest dance floors around the world. According to Doyle, his success is the result of a simple philosophy.
“Treat everyone the same, don’t think you’re a rock star, and remember you are there to entertain people, not expand your ego,” he tells SX. “Most of all, do everything spectacularly well.
“I like to think we walk a fine tightrope between being cool and being accessible. Some may call us cheesy, but we are all about a damn good party – and if that means playing anthems people love rather than the latest Bosnian minimal techno remix that only one DJ has, then so be it.”
There to work some magic behind the decks at the launch event will be UK juggernauts K-Klass (pictured) and Paul Goodyear. They will be supported by ten of Sydney’s finest locals, and John Course from Melbourne.
“We are very fussy about who we work with and it’s all about quality,” Doyle says. “The whole team just work their arses off and we love what we do.”
The Sydney event will be the start of a string a shows in six cities across Australia and New Zealand that are set to be become the talk of Australian party scene.
“The conquest of Australia is next on the list, and I don’t just want to ship in DJs to appear at the events,” Doyle says. “We are looking to grow new local talent including DJs we can feature at the events and performers we can develop and get onto our CDs. So far two Australian names to watch in the Fierce camp are Alex Taylor and DJ Playmate!”
Further global domination is evidently on the horizon. “We’ve just launched weekly residencies in Singapore and Miami, and we’re in talks with Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai,” Doyle tells. “Our radio show is expanding all the time – it’s now on 28 stations in 25 countries, and is being tested on about six Australian stations as we speak!”
Fierce Angel Australian launch party, The Ivy (330 George Street, Sydney) on Sunday, October 4 from 4pm. 2nd release tickets $40+bf from moshtix.com.au.
