DJ SORCERESS


SORCERESS plays a range of electronic beats, featuring styles such as progressive/tech house, tribal progressive trance, and just damn good techno………. With her roots deeply seeded in trance however and a mixing journey that began in year 2000, there will often be the driving sound of the Swedish Nord Lead heard throughout her sets fused with new progressive rhythms and analogue synth melodies. Dj Sorceress is not a hard techno act and she doesn’t play minimal either, as the style is best described by European influence and musical mentor, Peter Juergens as straight “progressive.” With this style themed throughout her act, be sure to hear plenty of deep driving bass lines, clicky rhythms, and inspiring melodies with an up beat progressive flow to suit day or night. Check out DJ SORCERESS as a finalist in the 2010 Australian Pioneer DJ Search Top 10, & a recent 2011 No.1 rating in the MDS progressive house charts with her mix ‘Friday High.’ With a solid year of playing festivals across the country & recording mixes, SORCERESS has just been crowned the winner in the 2011 Pioneer Pro Dj Search with mix ‘Progressive Fever.’ She has also featured earlier in 2011 in the top 75 in Australia & N.Z in EMI’s ‘She Can Dj!’
With a journey destined for music and dance, after years of surrounding herself with sound DJ SORCERESS aka Amelia Batchelor made sense of a passion that began at a young age. Admiring her dad’s record rock collection and the deep sound that is only produced on vinyl, she couldn’t help falling into a world of music. Playing flute and guitar from a young age, writing and recording her own material soon followed bringing with it the bass guitar, electric acoustic and vocals.

With a keen interest and many years of playing in various bands and running band events and tours (including the northern Victorian FREEZA tour of 1998 featuring the Mavis’s, Pre Shrunk & The Brown Hornets) it was time for the young musician to try something new! So out of the blue there was a trade of a bass amp for a Vestax PMC-270A mixer. This was a calling in a new direction of the musical journey, as the decks soon followed and the guitar took a back seat. Dj Sorceress went one step better than the single record player she grew up with and got those vinyls mixing!

Along side the records were the festivals and parties, as bringing people together to experience the magic of the music was also all part of the journey. As a main organiser of the event ‘ARCADIA’ outdoors in 2002 (Vibrasphere and Antix live) event management took a new turn for Sorceress and eventually lead to the formation of Pax Events in 2005. The word Pax, a Mayan word meaning ‘The Power of Music’ harnessed the energy that lead to the birth of the AKASHA FESTIVAL www.akashafestival.com Akasha is a universal term for the 'life force,' and also the 'fifth element'. In ancient writings Akasha is said to operate through sound and vibrations. As a co-organiser of this popular festival with David Coates and Anthony Kelly, Amelia AKA Sorceress has gained vast experience & respect within the music industry, and the international electronic scene.


Beginning her mixing in 2000, Dj Sorceress has experimented with an array of different sounds and genres and is today mixing a deep progressive tribal version of electronica, progressive house, trance and tech house. Playing at many outdoor events, club nights and house parties over the years, in early 2002 it was no less than a pleasure to play the closing set at the Arcadia event outdoors.

Dj Sorceress has also performed at The Glow Bar 2001 – 2002, Tranceplants 2002 – 2005, Akasha Festivals 2006 and 2007, with other highlights including Ostara Festival 2008, main stage Spiral Harmonics 09 & 2010, Southern Oracle Festival QLD 2010 (4-hour set), Tribeadelic NYE Festivals, Fool Proof events, Pyrotechnics events – including the Merrymint Christmas club parties, Earthcore events, The ‘Chill-Out Club’ Maenam Beach, Ko Samui Thailand, Royal Doof Festival events, Sanctuary Club events Melbourne, Red Bus gigs, Earthdance, Ravelations Club Events and DXM’s Almost Human nights & Circus club parties. Sorceress rated as a finalist in the 2010 Australian Pioneer Dj Search Top 10 & has recently been crowned WINNER OF THE 2011 PIONEER DJ COMP.

SORCERESS has been playing across Australia over the past few years with a 4 hour set at Strawberry Fields Vic (Funktion One market stage 2010), a massive set at Subsonic Music Festival NSW on the Friday night & an Earth Frequency Fest QLD morning set (2010). She also played on a renogade stage at Rainbow Serpent Fest (2010). 2011 has seen her play main stage for a second time at Southern Oracle QLD, & featured again at Subsonic. SORCERESS took main stage at Deliverance Festival in NSW & played a killer set just before Atmos at the Royal Melbourne Hotel. Her mixes have also been featuring on various electronic radio programs across the country & overseas including: Melbourne’s Kiss FM with Adam Trace’s morning show & the MDS show with Syme Tollens, Radio Metro Goldcoast QLD (Grant Who), Gippsland community radio (Ash Heyfron), Bay FM Byron Bay (Lainie Chait), UK based internet radio Audio Addictz & California’s SheFM.

SORCERESS has supported various international electronic artists over the years including Peter Juergens (Peter Gun), Tomasz Balicki (Atmos), Antix/Fiord, D-Sens (Lunaspice), Dj Slater, & S-Range to name just a few & has played at festivals along side internationals & local artists such as: Michael Mayer, Dominik Eulberg,

With a music career spanning over 12 years, and a BA in Arts Music Industry and Event Management (R.M.I.T), Amelia aka DJ SORCERESS is now taking sound to a new level with her solo project. In the past she has been a member of the duo ‘FELINE,’ & has been associated with the label Divatronic Records with co-worker Rachael Renee Jones aka DJ Miss Renee. SORCERESS is now a member of the SOLAR RECORDS team with Jeannie Parker, & is also associated other labels & promoters. With a big future ahead, future bookings for Europe’s summer of 2012, a win in this year’s Australian Pioneer DJ Search & a massive love for electronic music, DJ SORCERESS is sure to rock both the local and international electronica scenes.
