Jake, you learned to play several instruments as a child and your Father also played trumpet at a professional level. Can you define a moment or point in your life that led you to produce music?
As a kid i really didn't hang out with to many people when i was a lot younger ,it was basically me and the stereo, i guess after middle school i had bought myself a gemini sampler and started sampling anything form my dads collection dumping it on tape then re-sampled the sample on another sample back and forth those were the early years . me, my stereo and my sampler the holy Trinity of jake childs at that time lol :)
You’ve certainly had a lot of influence on your local scene and were quoted in 2005 as wanting to ‘turn Houston’s house scene upside down”. How much do you feel you’ve shaken up your local scene and how do you see it evolving over the coming years?
You know during that time i was really pumped to "change" things but after a while i realized its not about changing things or making your mark, it was more about changing "me" going on "my" journey and being content with what i choose, and if it happens to inspire someone, even better. I guess the older i get the more i realize that happiness doesn't come from outside things ,situations, awards, social status, but the true happiness and change that i always wanted was always within.
Describe your proudest moment in connection to your label, Uniform Recordings.
Every time i see that record release the excitement the artist gets when it comes out, i love seeing that excitement and proud moment that one feels when your voice is heard all over the world and your able to share it.
Your band POSR is certainly a step away from your career as a hands-up, big-room house Dj. How did the band come about and what are your plans for your debut album launch? Can we expect to see a tour in the future?
POSR was an awesome little project i had it was definitely an outlet for me to voice what was going on inside, especially threw the vibe and lyrics, things are on a bit of a hold with that project at the moment but all in due time all in due time :)
Jake you’re a prolific producer and have been responsible for no less than 44 releases and remixes since 2002. Could you detail for us how you feel your approach to producing may have evolved over the years? And where do you see it moving in the future?
Definitely in my earlier years i guess i was a little less polished really didn't take as much time in polishing the sounds effects etc, i've always been really good at throwing elements together to make that”catchy” vibe where it will draw you in and keep you wanting to listen, but Now i'm applying more detail and refinement to what i originally am known for, funny how my music imitates life...
If you had to list five pointers for first-time producers out there, what pointers would you share with them?
Take your fav track put it next to the track yer producing copy how that artist did that track do this over and over till u understand structure then once you get it burnt in your head use it as a reference and create what you create but apply your own taste to it. remember...nothing is new under the sun
What Dj's or Producers are floating your boat at the moment, and why?
I'd have to say kaiserdisco, Jay Lumen, Ben Sims, Carl Cox, Lucas Keizer, Kink , Carlo Lio, Christian Smith , Flavio Diaz , Luca Bacchetti , Lutzenkirchen , Nic Fanciulli , Rino Cerrone , Sebastien Leger , Popof , Umek . Most of the producers are very welll defined and detailed in there productions and that's what i want in my productions, natural "projection" you can say and there saw some people that i have gotten to know most of all.
