QFound Out your new track which is a project with you and berlin based Richard Davis. Can you tell us about this original track and if their is any remix projects in the works?
AI made the original demo about 9 moths ago, finished it about 7 months ago and only had one singer/songwriter in mind for the track; Richard Davis. So i headhunted him and luckily he was up for singing on the track. We wroked on it aback and forth for 3-4 months and well..... here it is :) A remix package of the track will be released in April 2012 and includes remixes by Deetron and Tiefschwarz.
QWith regards to Dance Music and labels as your label Noir Music, we see that majority of labels always provide emphasis on support from other artist. Do you think that this provides any relevance to music listeners and follower if everyone is doing or do you think it can effect your brand reputation.
AIts always important to have support from "the big names" in the business. For many people its a quality stamp from their idols or artists/djs they really like. Especially if the artist behind the release is quite new in the business, then its a nice tap on the shoulder that someone popular and experienced is supporting the work. It helps create attentions and buzz to the tracks, artists, labels etc.
QHow do you see and fit your peer perception of the music you play when you perform and do you read the crowd to see what build momentum or you play from a unbiased notion?
AMy dj sets are always very spontanious apart from the fact that i know the music i play inside/out. I play what feels right in the moment. That is 9/10 times triggered by the reaction and inspiration i get from the crowd. I am not a "crowdpleaser", but their reactions certainly do inspire me to the track-selection every night. Sometimes it takes you deep, vocally and others you end up playing more techno-ish and banging.
QHow is your Studio setup with regards to production and what equipment do you use in building and creating your magical movements in track producing?
AIts very simple. I use ABleteon as my DAW, Yamaha NS10 studio speakers, then i have my novation keyboard where i play all melodies, grooves, percussion from and a lot of VST plugins to choose my sounds from. I recently got the "Machine" from Native Instruments which i cant wait to explore.
QWhat do you see the Difference in Western Philosophy of Music to the the European philosophy and difference and similarities?
AWe are all in it for the feel of house music. Thats what unites us and bring us together. I dont really see any difference except that we in europe always are 1 step ahead on the trends and new flavours.
QWhat is your favorite country to visit and where are the top 3 place you like to relax and spend your spare time when not touring?
AI always love to be in countries where there's sun and a good warm temparature. I also enjoy places with a great downtown buzz and shopping possibilities. Its just nice to be in the middle of everything and feel the cultures and atmosphere. Spain migt be my preferred place to spent holidays and especially places like Las Palmas and Tenerife have served some very realxed moments for me. Top 3: Thailand islands, Spain islands , US (Miami).
QWhat are your Favorite fashion designers and what style of fashion do you see Noir as personally?
ATo be honest i dont have any favourite brands. I wear a lot of different brands and i love to just blend everything. Just like with anything else i dont settle on one specific brand and style, i kinda choose the best (or what i like the most) from everyone and everything :)
QWhat is the equipment metrics that you have for your setup when you perform?
AI use a Macbook pro running my Tractor software. Then i control everything with the Native Instruments S4 controller. I love that setup and love the fact that i can bring my own setup easily everywhere i play from festivals to big and small clubs.
QWhat is the worst situation and best situation a promoter or curator have placed you in during your performing years?
AI dont wanna mention any names and places. But the worst has been asked to be ready in the hotel lobby at 2am, then waiting for 2½ hours untill 4.30 before i was picked up. Then going to the festival (where i was supposed to play at 3am) and play from 5.30 and till 6.15 (i was supposed to play 2 hours) because i had to catch a flight to the next city/gig. The best thing is when you are closing act in a club and people wont leave. I recently had an experience where i was closing act and had to play 2 hours. I ended up playing 4 hours and the club had to expand opening hours. Afraid of police giving them a big fine we eventually had to close down with a packed club and happy crowd screaming "MORE, MORE, MORE".
QWhat tracks can we expect out in February and March on Noir Music and what artist's?
AOn Noir Music you will get a re-issue of the Classic "Hollis P Monroe - I'm Lonely" originally from 1997. That release will include great new remixes by Subb-an, Laura Jones, SIS and Larse. There will a be "Noir Music Essentials Volume 3" compilation which is basically a "best of" whats been happining over the last 18 months on the label with a couple of secret exclsuives. We are also planning the "5 Years of Noir Music" whci should be a very exciting release. On NM2 (Noir Music 2) we have productions coming from Toky, Fur Coat, Hot Since 82, Atapy, Inxec & Droog, Kolombo, Blond:Ish, Hunter/Game, Re.You, Santé, Lula Circus, Hrdvsion + more. So i am very excited and proud of whats coming :)
QFor upcoming artist with so many new faces in electronic music, what is the best advice you can give to make your dream come true?
ABelieve in yourself. Do what feels right from the heart. Dont chase overnight fame, dot try to copycat other producers/djs or whatever. believe in yourself and the rest will follow :)
