QYaya, can you start off by telling us what is the most exciting thing happening in your life right now?
AI'm am really quite happy as just returned from thailand and actually just finished customizing my new studio in my town Turin in Italy with the great help of my friend Clod. Now back from some time off i can work with all my new instruments we have implemented into build better than good "Yaya desolat"music for the world.
QYou have recently been signed to Desolat, who are renowned for rapidly shooting into prominence after releasing the likes of Loco Dice, Martin Buttrich, Sebbo and Moritz von Oswald and many others. How does it feel to be amongst such good company and how did this relationship come about?
ABeing part of Desolat family for me to this date is one of the greatest accomplishment that i could ever possibly imagine. It is really special and important to me to be part of this team of excellence, plus everybody with us is nice and great mentors. They are always there to help me when i need something everytime and they make sure to feel welcome at all times in the family.
QYou began performing live as a percussionist at the age of 15 and not long after that began DJ'ing, what was it that attracted you to the decks?
AThere was a period in my town where i was percussionist but the music in the clubs was not my favorite type of sound. For me, It was quite hard to play percussions in this unlikely situation so i changed my music persona and started to practice and learn to play vinyls in the clubs.
QHow did you get your first break as a DJ?
AWhen I started to play vinyls on turntables, i was 17 in Turin, Italy, 1 year later i moved to Ibiza for the summer and began to listen, study and learn about a lot of good djs and producers which to this present day have inspired me to find my sound.
QWhat equipment/ software are you using right now to produce?
AI have been working immensely with Logic and i use my many analogic instruments, drum machines, synth etc..
QAs a percussionist moving into producing EDM, how difficult was it for you to translate what was previously a tactile experience for you into a digitally constructed framework?
AWas absolutely not as difficult as it seemly could have been. I have always had the tacit knowledge of playing percussion which was a great addition to helping progress in my work in the studio. In my eyes making music is more easy and natural because i know already in my head the beat i want to create and exemplify to the world.
QWe hear you are currently working with Cadenza, can you tell us anything about that?
AI will actually release this winter a Ep with my good friend Francisco Allendes, We are hoping possibly for the end of the year. We made 3 exclusive tracks, which we had major support from Luciano and the cadenza crew who played it all the summer in Ibiza and at the end of the season he gave us the thumbs up that he would like to release it in the future,
QWhat can you tell us about the Yaya Desolat Radio Show?
AYaya Desolat Radio Is the best way to project my music each month to be seen and heard around the world. At present it is being syndicated in USA on clubdistric & gravyfm,Radio-klub in france, mixing.dj and special editions on vibefm in Romania and Club FG Dj Radio in Belgium along with so many others. We are in the process of it being syndicated on quite a number of broadcast channels internationally either once a month or bi-weekly on the Global Channel syndication network of "Music is the Drug Radio" which is a group of Companies of Professional Rockstars . Our design of "Yaya Desolat" Radio is to create a musical alliance around the world of continuos sound and great experience to reach all ages.
QYour residency at Zoo was a lengthy 2 years, can you tell us how you keep it fresh for the crowd week after week?
AWhen you play every week in the same club you have to create innovation always in your set . My insight and what works for me is the finding the excitement in finding exactly right bombs to explode dance floors when searching for new music and promos everytime.
QWhich artists are making your ears prick at the moment and who should we be looking out for?
ADesolat crew of course are my overall mentors and inspiration but there are also other good artists at the moment like: Jun Akimoto, Ittetsu, Doubting Thomas, Macromism, Matthew Oh and so many more.
QFinally can you tell us what you are aiming to achieve in the future?
AWell at present November 25th, I am releasing the EP "The Mysterious Way" on the Hummingbird Label which i am quite excited. We have received a great amount of support already by Loco Dice, Martin Eyerer, Tieschwarz, Misstress Barbara, Raresh, Livio & Roby, Butch, Anderson Noise, Horatio, Dualton, Italoboys,Mikael Stavöstrand and Mihai Popoviciu. In the upcoming future We are hoping very soon to release a new Desolat Ep for the next year and i want to continues to work with Loco Dice and all the family around the world! With My "Yaya Desolat" Radio show, i would like to be able for it to create a music alliance throughout the world and be able to create and bring to the table other artist that are apart of the Desolat family and other crews as well.
