The True Colors Residence , a permanent supportive housing program for homeless LGBT youth 18-24 years old, will open a second location in New York City sometime next year.
The True Colors Residence hinted at the new location via their official Twitter account: “Here’s to wonderful opportunities & new amenities for our Intergenerational residents in 2012, and to a 2nd True Colors Residence in NYC!”
The True Colors Residence, which began welcoming homeless LGBT youth on September 1, 2011, is a multifamily building containing 30 studio apartments, indoor and outdoor community space for residents, and a computer room and resource library. The building is named in honor of Cyndi’s Lauper’s support for the project and for West End, and references Ms. Lauper’s hit single, “True Colors.” The residence offers support and job-training services to the youth. “Our primary goal is to provide a physically and emotionally safe and supportive environment
