Biography

Papa's story stems back over 12 years ago, having residencies at some of Melbourne's biggest clubbing fraternities such as Chasers, Mansion, Milk Bar, Metro and Dome. It was at nightclubs like Chasers and Metro where at the tender age of 16 (yes, to the club owners disbelief, he was underage!) Papa had his first residencies and found his own feet with a passion for vocal house music. Although his energy, charisma and mixing ability shone through from these early stages leading him to be a crowd favourite, his djing massively exploded upon discovering where his true passion lied ; Trance. The trance journey began with playing at underground parties, progressing his way up to playing alongside some of Melbourne's protagonists of the dance music scene at the memorable Mansion such as Sean Quinn, Mark James and KC Taylor. He was just 17. But the true cult following started when his skill of introducing new sounds of Trance secured him the youngest residency at Dome nightclub. This talent soon became a Melbourne favourite. Setting a benchmark in the scene he loved, Papa followed his passion by starting up his own company and creating the party, LAUNCH. This biannual event set a standard of exclusive dance parties with state of the art stage, lighting production, venues and leading musical acts which essentially attracted a second to none crowd. But at LAUNCH, Papa always stole the show, lifting the roof off and playing some of the most memorable sets which left punters engrossed and longing for the next one to come around. Maintaining the same level of consistency throughout all his parties, his recipe caused an instant sensation and the Papa Smurf name was branded. It wasnt until the closing of Dome nightclub where Papa spread his wings and started the next chapter with a company of his own. The new era of MAJIK ENTERTAINMENT began and henceforth, it got off to a big bang, finding himself back at the club of his very first residency, the newly renovated ZOS nightclub (ex Chasers). Majik Saturdays, his new weekly event, offered a state of the art club which set a new standard of Melbourne clubbing. It also offered the freshest Trance with some of the worlds leading internationals as guests playing under the Majik banner. But the peripheral factor which made this Saturday night memorable was the high-energy crowd out to have a good time. Running the club for 4 years, the succession of the Majik brand continued and branched out with parties such as Trance Nation, Anthems, Flashback and more. At the conclusion of Zos, Papa continued to and started the now present Revolution Saturdays @ Club Evolution. With this night he continues to push the boundaries offering the ultimate clubbing experience. With the mention of any Majik party you are always sure to have the time of your life. Along the way, Papa together with his company, Majik Entertainment, have toured some of the biggest names in in the world arena. Under the Majik banner, he had the chance to play alongside the likes of Abel Ramos, AGnelli & Nelson, Alex Kid, Amber Savage, Boogie Pimps, Cosmic Gate (Nic Chaggal and Bozzi on separate tours), Dave Joy, Dj Spoke, Dj Walt, Fergie, Jan Johnson, John Askew, Lisa Lashes, Marco V, NU NRG, Randy Katana, Stoneface & Terminal, Taul Paul, Yves Deruyter. Papa has also supported the Worlds top 3 Djs on separate occasions ; Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren. With his future set to prosper working very hard in the studio, be sure to listen out for Papas trax in 07 on top of a European tour. His energy, professionalism and dexterity behind the decks leaves any crowd he plays to spellbound. This is the wizadry of Papa Smurf ; The peoples DJ. Theres never a dry spot in the house, or a set that you dont hear the screams of his loyal crowd, chanting LETS GO PAPA ! His love, passion and enthusiasm for music and the industry attatched to it are some of the reasons that have gained him a cult following throughout Melbournes clubbing circles and beyond.
